I'm in a thrift slump.
Not like before, when I couldn't motivate to hit tag or rummage sales. I've been perusing clothing racks and slobbering over finds at ShopGoodwill.org to great advantage lately.
But I'm having one of those contrary moments where the things I'm specifically looking for elude me.
Here are a few things in the past I've been ruthless and diligent about pursuing but could not find:
trash cans, Mexican pottery, clothes pins, yarn, milk glass lamps, light plates, yogurt makers, pressure cookers, wooden-heeled sandals
In all of these instances, I hit many thrift shops, several times a week, looking single-mindedly in the sections where such products are generally found, not letting myself get all googly-eyed by unrelated items. And I generally prevailed.
So why can't my latest object of obsession - fitted white queen-size sheets - manifest?
I'm not asking for anything terrible specific. They need not be organic or 1000 thread count or embroidered by angels or anything. But I can't find queen-size sheets at all, in any color, lately.
(Long Rambling Aside: I know some people might be grossed out by used bed linen, but I have a washing machine, bleach, hot water and scorching sunlight to disinfect these babies on the laundry line. And furthermore, these are for my daughter's bed, who she shares with our dog. He gets the sheets pretty damn gross, with his inattention to the soil and turf he drags into our home. So I like to have many, many sheets for her bed and the cheaper the better.)
Anyway, I gave in and bought some at Target this morning. Here's where I give. I can't spend so much time running around town whoring after cheap sheets, you know? For 20 bucks, I got two fitted sheets, in blinding white. Done.
